Having a husband in grad school can be difficult. For me the week is full with work and other stuff, like run club or book club or just the fact that I get home from work at 7pm. The weekend is the time to party. However, Ben's work never ends. It is as if he was put on this earth to do homework. I decided that since this not quite summer/not quite fall weather had descended upon us, we needed to go outside and do something fun. It was very clear that we needed to go explore Theodore Roosevelt Island.
Even though Roosevelt Island is metro accessible, we chose to drive. We were a little nervous that there would be no parking on such a perfect Saturday afternoon, however, there was plenty of parking. We walked the outer trail around the island and only veered off once to that this picture by the water with the Key Bridge.
I couldn't help but laugh at the idea that we were "hiking" on Roosevelt Island, this walkway went around most of the island.
We were hoping we would get a nice view of the monuments from the island. This is the best view we could find (sticking to the trail). I feel that the ghost of Teddy Roosevelt would haunt me forever if I did any damage to his island.
It was fun to see all the kayakers. Even though we could still hear all the DC noise (dance party music from Georgetown, airplanes over head), it was nice to get outside and feel like we were in the woods.
